That's some heavy duty science! Thankfully, it's much more entertaining than, e.g., poisonous injectable products or novel ways to slaughter children.

I hear you, James. This felt like a rare opportunity to expose The Science™ without disrespecting the victims.

Hahaha ! just like the Voynych manuscript ! I had read about it and then saw an older doc on youtube, where they showed pics. I immediately recognized some plants for calming, then saw the pics of pregnant women, and knew what it was - a medieval doctor's manual to treat pregnant women. The 2 experts, a linguist declaring it written in an unknown language, and a historian of some kind, declaring it an early Da Vinci (I am sure the man turned around in his grave) were very serious. A newer doc showed a journalist, who had come to the same conclusion as I did, and he also showed a drawing of an Italian city with special walls - there are only a couple of these. He then found the 2 original books, from which this one had been copied. If a historian cannot see the difference between a medieval and a renaissance book, how can we ever believe anything they say ! And as to the alphabet - the journalist figured out it was just plain old latin, but abreviated - one tsp of this and two Tbsp of that.... ah those experts! The scientism ! LOL

Thanks and amen to this, Ingrid: "how can we ever believe anything they say?"

Ha. And I thought 2009 Latvian meteorite hoax taught people to be skeptical of fresh craters.

So, we’d better hope there’s intelligent life somewhere out in space, ‘cause there’s bugger all down here on Earth.

All kidding aside, I strongly believe in the intelligence of humanity. But we all need to be doing intense work on being less ego-driven.

Intelligence evolved because it was beneficial to the individual, and somehow increased their odds of getting laid. Unfortunately, being smarter also increases the tendency to be ego driven cause you gotta dance with the advantage that brought ya.

I hear you, Scott, and thanks...but I'd love to replace one word: "gotta."

We humans have the option to override our drives for the benefit of others. Thus, we (especially men) have to be careful to not act first and blame biology later.

Thanks for the laugh today, Mickey! Science is so overrated.

Overrated indeed! 🤣

The sad part of it is science is a great tool for informing us about how the world works. Science and engineering have produced amazing advances. Somewhere along the way, it became a religion. Believe the science with a priesthood of credentialism. So many beneficial advances suppressed because they don't work in the control paradigm.

It calls to mind something George Bernard Shaw said: "Science is always wrong. It never solves a problem without creating ten more."
