So what’s with the drag reading books to kids in libraries ? What is that ? How does get classified ? And why are drag divas so inclined suddenly to be reading books to kids ?

I'll safely assume that's now a no-no in TN.

I live here in Poortland OR where the libraries propped this first; no one batted a heavily mascaraed eyelash, because 'gay is good', (?) unless of course you look a bit closer. As a lifelong lesbian myself, all I can figure is that the gay male community is somehow linked in with the various library associations and city administrations. I do wonder where they thought it would go, what the result would be.

Zach that is quite a great bit there. Much thanks.

Thank you, J. My assumption is that the drag explosion is not so much a gay male thing but more the result of the trans agenda and longer term: the transhumanist agenda.

My objection has not been about gay culture , but about the hyper sexualization of society and our children. I am not into the gimmicks of cartoon characters reading either , but at least there is some kind of connection between what children are watching and what is e pressed in such a way . But when do they are we see drag characters ? And then there is the whole female make up thing

In New York.it was being funded. The drag queens were not volunteering their time. Paid out of public funds.

I've seen people wailing about how "trans people can't be trans in public anymore!" which is willfully obtuse.

I would like to see an addition to the bill that penalizes parents for bringing their kids to drag shows in private venues.

Oh, and while we're at it, can Tennessee also ban child pageantry? You know, for consistency's sake.

Yes! Just like the alleged "don't say gay" bill in Florida, the activists and their black-and-white thinking fastidiously avoid facts.

And yes to holding parents accountable and consistent lawmaking.

I suppose drag are only men dressing as women. What is a woman dressing like a man? oh wait, a banker !

I got to see a super female drag show in NYC titled The Club, which was hilarious. The setting was a men's club -- you know, the stuffy kind -- but women played all the parts.

haha I had no idea that existed. Grew up in small village and now OUT of a small village and never lived in cities ! what a world LOL

I think there were some very famous female drag performers in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Marlene Dietrich did drag in one of her movies (can't remember which one right now) and kissed another woman full on the mouth. Yes, before the Legion of [In]decency took over the movies.

oh gosh I remember that scene! I also remember her with her cigarettes on long holders, dressed as a man, but with a rather 'female' glamour. Well she could hardly pass as a man LOL

I don't think the purpose of drag -- even male drag -- was ever to pass, it was more of a send-up of sex stereotyping.

And how wonderful to chat with someone who remembers old movies! When we lived in Boston we went to two or three double features a week after work. The glorious days of rep houses!

i was in Europe and there were reruns of old movies some days, and mom loved these. I have seen a few but of course it is long ago. I even remember the black and white minstrel shows which probably were forbidden in the US. What did we know! we enjoyed the music without even giving it a second thought. Imagine my surprise when I got here LOL

“ However, if any Nazi or Klansman were to don lingerie, put on clownish and misogynist makeup, and then grind for or with a child, they would be arrested.”

Would they? Or would they immediately become members of a protected class, victims to be shielded even from hurtful words?

Expand full comment

In Tennessee, they would (according to this law).

Expand full comment

Well, that's good. Unfortunately, here in NYC, or in a number of deep blue states like CA or MA, I think they would more likely be considered a protected class. Possibly even, parents attempting to keep it from happening might have their children taken by child protective services. This only marginally meant to be irony or exaggeration.

Women who protest the trans agenda are not given peaceable public assembly. The cops allow them to be spit at, screamed at, drowned out with loud sirens and loud speakers, and physically assaulted. Just another thing the pro-grooming crowd ignores.

Sad but well-said, my friend.

Thank you for the clarification. It is shameful that people on both sides conflate issues to match their narrative.

Here's a little treat for you, Mickey:

Around 2012 the anarchists in the Occupy camp in Oakland California mobbed conference center where law enforcement (police, prosecutors, forensic psychologists, etc) was meeting to devise ways to address child sex trafficking. The anarchists claimed the anti-trafficking people where "denying children their sexual agency."

There was a time when I sympathized with anarchists and, I feel, for good reason. As they morphed into the twisted mindset they now occupy (!), I detached quickly.

Thanks, Susan.

Mickey, I used to consider myself an anarchist! But I was the sort of anarchist who , first, read anarchist literature, and, second, understood that anarchism is the ultimate expression of a sense of responsibility. Now it just seems to be people who think anarchism means no limits, and I have come to understand why communists and socialists despised them so much (see Spanish civil war). Then, such "anarchists" as Chomsky (anarcho-syndicalist) and David Graeber, both of whom called for the U.S. to bomb Syria in support of a small group of Kurds, really made me throw up. Only insane people -- to borrow a term, bougie wankspanglers -- call for the bombing of ANYONE.
