The System™ is corrupt but we must do more than whine & posture on Substack
Plus: Remembering my friend, Laura, a homeless artist & wonderful human
Below is a short Instagram reel. Please click the image and turn up the sound:
Yes, we live in a world in which children — especially “Third World” children — suffer disproportionately. Those children, and all of us, are bombarded with toxins in our air, water, food [sic], and medicine [sic].
The “health care” system is more unscrupulous than any hedge fund scheme or Mafia undertaking.
The children who get sick from the ubiquitous toxins wind up sucked into the vortex of “health care” (see the above reel).
Those same children are intentionally programmed to worship so-called superheroes and psyops like Barbie or play-doctor toys (again, see the above reel).
It’s enough to drive anyone into a state of paralysis… or fantasy.
As a result, we assign copious amounts of time to grousing on social media and virtue signaling about how awake [sic] we are.
We act as if our alleged refusal to participate somehow benefits those in need.
Ask the children victims across the world how much they admire our delusional keyboard “rebellions.”
But dig this:
The System™ currently exists and thrives because we allow it and until we gather the selfless courage to help purge the planet of evil, we are obligated to help those suffering — yes, like the kids in the reel above.
Our “researched” opinions of standard cancer treatments or Hollywood propaganda are not the point. The children paying the price for our indefensible acquiescence don’t care about our online purity litmus tests.
So, for now, if they want a Captain America doll to help distract themselves from their grievous condition, so be it.
If we want to live a life of substance and purpose, we have parallel missions to fulfill, my friends.
Commit ourselves to offering non-stop relief to the vulnerable souls within our reach
Expunge our egos long enough to hold ourselves accountable for being too scared and/or too proud to accept our complicity in this sinister system
Doom-scrolling only serves to strengthen The Powers That Shouldn’t Be™. What we deem to be “activism” makes us complicit.
Instead, we need what Dorothy Day called a “revolution of the heart.”
It’s 2025 — time to delete the excuses, rationalizations, and inaction.
Reminder: Everything can and will change (if you want it).

One year ago this week, a woman I helped for many years and with whom I became dear friends passed away. Here’s what I wrote about Laura last January:

Thank you in advance!
My condolences to you, Mickey, on the passing of your friend.
We do need to do more. I'm not sure what exactly but so much is perverse and inverted.
I just put Laura up for the Soul of The Week in a men’s prayer group. Laura’s story hit home with me. Mickey, thank you for helping the most vulnerable. May Laura RIP.
