In response to humiliation, ostracism, ridicule, or if starving, to protect your child, your religion or your home - all humans are capable of savagery & violence. Those who choose otherwise in certain circumstances allow themselves to become the victims of those who do. Humans are, after all, animals with keenly honed survival instincts - to the detriment of some individuals and our species as a whole.
Many election campaigns ago, another non-American (German, to be precise) and I were observing in amazement some of the rhetoric being slung regarding politics and ideologies.
I can't recall exactly what was at stake at this point, but our German friend was aghast at the wild level of patriotism being displayed.
I directed her to read up on "Manifest Destiny".
She said it explained a lot. I think it does here, too.
National narcissism. When people don't just rally to that flag, we will impose it on them. Because we know best.

After 9/11 one of the best ways to never even begin the so called War on Terror would have been for George Bush and the US as a whole to forgive those who perpetrated 9/11. Unconditionally.
One of the best ways to end the war between Jews and Arabs would be for them to forgive each other. Unconditionally.
We could stop war in its tracks with forgiveness.
But there’s just one problem. Evil.
Evil lives and moves and breathes among us all.
Sometimes, as in the case of Japan whose expressed goal was to kill and dominate the world together with their Allies, Hitler and Germany, Mussolini and Italy, evil has to be defeated.
Not being Jesus, we do this the only way we know how. Retaliatory war. In WWII, it worked. Otherwise by now we’d all be speaking German or Japanese. If we survived.
Micky, you must better understand history and war. As horrific as your pictures are of Tokyo in WWII, if Japan had prevailed in their plans, millions and millions more, probably including your grandparents, would be pictured lying in mass graves.
Jesus Christ came because He knew we would never accomplish the elimination of evil. Otherwise there would be no hope for the world.
as long as we keep thinking of war, battle, violence, there will be no peace. It is a one at the time thing, each for themselves have to find peace in their own hearts, and then, we can talk peace. In the meantime all we can do is pray for the poor people who are slaughtered by the demonized monsters that once were human.
Mickey, thank you for having the courage to post all truth, not just “narrative” truth. Seems like both camps are engaging in the same tactics, which I believe is one of the points you are trying to get across to people. 💕
