In the words of esteemed philosopher, Donald Rumsfeld: "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

to go back to good old days, you might need to go as far as the neanderthal. And I don't know for sure if that were Good Old Days ! Money runs this country, and most countries, Bigharma BigBanking, and indeed a president is just a straw man. Does not matter who is president as we well saw with trump and biden. Change of president but the train rides on, no matter who sits in the first cabin.

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately.

Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something.

They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."

~ President Woodrow Wilson

The mindset in finance is a reactive mob(ster) mentality, highly focused and capable of turning viciously on any situational heretics or heresies. They will punish within their own ranks to maintain discipline. A good recent example is the fate of Lehman Brothers. The last head, Fuld, was not a reliable team player and when it was possible to publicly humiliate him, that's what happened. The lower ranks and the rest of the C suite served as exemplary punishment.

WOW ! James !

So well Said.

It doesn't have to be this way, this type of monetary bloodlust & viciousness.

We know, better ways to handle money is definitely possible.

I like Meritocracy.

This can heal past issues, I believe, but a period of implementation & results-study would prove one way or the other.

I can just hear my mother (born 1916) snorting at that greatest generation crap! I expect that's my father (born 1916 on Mayday) I hear in the background joining in!

(Btw, my mother greatly admired Butler.)

May I suggest reading Sinclair Lewis', "It Can't Happen Here", 1935, about the US electing a fascist for President. Enlightening, scary, and highly plausible. Antifa has been around since. at least, the early 1930's. Peace

P.S. During FDR's time in office.
