This issue has been blown up into a great big emotive mess. I remember when Mike Rowe weighed in, some years back. He was right that trades are not a sign of intellectual disgrace, and that they're not a bad living either. But the higher education issue hits well below the rational mind.

I hear you. It's never fails to disappoint me when issues get almost randomly labeled "left" or "right" and thus, adherents to those ideologies reflexively line up to support "their" side without any contemplation at all.

I’m reading this as a “catch-up” article, and much appreciate the insight. I’m in Canada, so am not really involved in the US student debt forgiveness situation, but it’s good to get context. You are 100% correct, this makes no sense, and is being used as yet another issue to divide and distract.

Thank you, Caroline! I'm so appreciative that readers like you are taking to time catch-up on my older stuff. It means a lot to me and please feel free to share! ☺️

I think universities with huge endowments ($$Billions) should forgive some of the student debt. Also, student debt forgiveness should be tied to degrees that mean something to our country, like engineering, science, technology degrees, etc. The U.S. is way behind other countries in these fields.
