specially that article of the presidents is a super good one. I think we should have all candidates visit that hospital before elections. Only the candidates that do not fail this test, should be allowed to compete. I saw with dismay that DeSantis is going for it, too. I would rather have him stay in Florida, and see what Kennedy can do. If he ever makes it to the elections, that is.

Each throwback is even more relevant today! Thank you for the morning reminders to live life in my own terms, not anyone else’s.

I will turn the volume down on commercials, you can actually see the subliminal messaging that way! More and more the TV stays off at my house and I know we are better for it. ☺️

I browsed the archives in the hope I'd find your mention of Bruce Lee somewhere and you did. Bruce Lee impacted my life in small ways since I am not a fighter. As an elementary student I would often walk past an older boy standing on the corner holding his eyes with his index fingers into a squint. I asked him why he did this and he replied, "to look more like Bruce Lee."

I also remember David Carradine from the Kung Fu series and since my fifth grade teacher Mr. Grisetti would often refer to his own martial arts training in our class. He went on to pilot Huey Cobras in Vietnam. There was even a popular song back then as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmfudW7rbG0

After high school, I met a group of guys through a janitorial job I had and we became friends. We would play Dungeons and Dragons (before computer games) with geometric dice and fiend folios. Bruce Lee was often brought up when facing the fanciful foes we encountered, usually by Ed, a very fit friend who went on to become an electrician in Las Vegas. I went on to study engineering at SUNY Buffalo.

I believe you would do well to help the young people become more interested in physical self defense in these dangerous times. That Kung Fu era never really gathered enough steam to become a phenomenon. Perhaps due to the untimely death of Bruce Lee and the rise of disco as the new thing. The martial arts teach so much more than fighting. I believe they have taught you, Mickey Z, the art of intellectual self defense as well.

Thank you, for all of this! Love the stories from back in the day. It's hard for people today to grasp how meaningful Bruce was - to more than a few generations. Today, martial arts = MMA (to most people). It's fascinating that what Bruce did and preached was a philosophy of not adhering to any single style. But something tells me he never meant cage fighting.

And for the record, I have posted a few times about Bruce, e.g.
