It's distressing how powerful and idiotically tribal that wretched bullshit can be. The tribal pull itself is bullshit too, and also very powerful. It gives people a fake sense of connection. They regurgitate the same misleading talking points and, in doing so, feel like they belong to a caring group.
When I was growing up, it was still normal for friends to simply drop by. That's a real connection.
