The entrepreneurial planning was poetry too! The world is always a little better when good art gets some notice. There's no end of crap foisted on the public and that needs to be fought.
It's a great project: direct relief, delivered with some attention to the recipient's dignity, and compassionate listening changes lives for the better. It's hard work.
Why don’t you post a couple of your poems here tomorrow Mickey Z? And tell us which book they were in and where we can purchase them! Thanks for the story I love it and how much has the world changed since then? Unbelievable.
Thanks, as always, Fayanne. I will definitely post some poems soon. That will require me going through my hard drive and finding work I feel still stands up. As for books, my verses might be in some anthologies but I don't know how to find them!
I remember reading some books “back then” Richard Brautigan In watermelon sugar, very very different and I loved them. I can still recite some of his words today.
“Swooned”. I know I find myself in the right corner of the library. When corsets were tight and real ladies could hardly breathe for being so ladylike. LoL. I cannot remember when I last read that word ;-). Back to du Maurier, Jane Eyre, et al What a wonderful story, Mickey ! I know that Seattle has has poetry and writings on their buses for their riders to enjoy. Likely in the dim past, the way things are doing these days. Let’s ruminate rather than criminate.
Thank you Mickey, I like to make up words as well, and it lights me up when folks get my meaning. And I imagine that the drops on the shower wall are talking to each other on the way down, “Hi, where are you going? I guess I’m going that way too.” LOL Thanks for sharing your imaginations and real life challenges
My favorite ticket I got for "selling" my poems on the subways for 15 years read: "Distributing free poetry on the subways." The cop told me he had to do that because his supervisor was there, and he felt bad about it so he asked "What do you want me to write there?" Hey Mickey, we shoulda formed a UNION!
Thank you SO much, Rae! 😊 I've always done my best to stay motivated, curious, and guided by my own internal compass.
I'm gonna hunt for your work!
Where to start, Mickey Z? (I'm in Europe)
Thanks, Pim! Do you mean the couplets sold to the French art dealer?
I would love to read some or your poetry!
Aw, thanks, MDR. I haven't written much in years but I could post a poem here on Substack on occasion!
THANK YOU for becoming a paid subscriber! It makes a HUGE difference for me... 😊

Thank you, my friend, for sharing that perspective...and thanks for your latest donation to my project to help homeless women! 💖

Thank you for your kind words, my friend, but I could not be doing such work for more than 6 years without the support of generous souls like you!

You are a capitalist after all!
I blame osmosis. 😇
Ah, the Nude is still Descending the Staircase, then. Must be the stairway to heaven, very long indeed.
😇
You are welcome! I have been meaning to for a while! Finally just made it happen!
Much, much appreciated. 😊

Thank you, Sharon! As a self-educated person, I tend toward some unusual vocabulary choices!
And yes, NYC also has poetry on the trains and busses now. I like to think I inspired them. 😊

That is beyond cool, Mitchel...thanks for sharing! It's great to "hear" your voice.
