How on the world did you know about it?

P.S. I added this info to the post.

I found that most excellent rat by sheer luck! He commented on some other substack, I forget which one, and his comment was so interesting that I clicked his publication link. I'm glad I did.

I will never again think of rats the same way! And knowing they giggle makes me want to protect them. Maybe instead of killing them, we can assign them Room 101 duty for the war criminals.

Indeed! Rats would also surely have a bone to pick with all the "scientists" that used their brethren in lab experiments. 🐀🐀🐀🐀

in case of fire - follow the rats! they know the way out. As for flooding, only if you can swim really really well! Inconquerable : mice, rats, ants. They can get in anywhere and they know how to escape as well... unless they meet my glueboards. Now I know that a rat fits under my door. Yikes! Thanks for the info!

I think a rat ate a bunch of our tomatoes and I am ok with that. I spotted it a few weeks ago under the bird feeder after sunset, scavenging for seeds. It was so cute and shy and ran away at the tiniest sound. When little bite marks appeared on the tomatoes shortly thereafter, I figured it was "Wilbur" and decided these could keep it busy from wandering into the loosely 'fenced' garden. It only eats a little bit each night, and seems to leave everything else alone- so far! Thanks for the fun facts about these smart lil creatures.

Thanks Mickey - amazing how fecund rats are - wow! - nature's trash and garbage cleaners - like big bacteria, cleaning up the mess. Most people think that bacteria are the enemy, but that is incorrect. Bacteria are benevolent essentially, and clean up cells that are damaged by toxic chemicals and toxic emotions. "Disease" is actually our body cleansing - lot of bacteria (and rats) means there's a lot to be cleansed...

Thank YOU, Will! What a fascinating perspective to add much-needed context to our view of rats.
