Being able to scan/skim is especially important to me, given the volume of info I'm trying to consume these days, in order to determine where I want to dive in ~ and that's not possible with podcasts.
Also agree with others about the reading ease with your posts. Especially appreciate that nowadays, since this is not always the case with other Substack writers. ;-)
Hey Mickey - I’m a big reader and podcast consumer so I enjoy both! Your podcasts are nicely produced with good production quality. So my hope is that you will continue to offer both. If you do decide to stop posting podcasts here I would subscribe to you on iTunes.
I did a few audio interviews here on Substack but was unhappy with the audio quality. So once I upgrade my equipment I’m going back to offering podcasts as well as written content. And I would like to invite you to be a guest one day!
Thank you for such a kind and detailed reply. For the record, I am NOT gonna stop podcasting. I'm just open to feedback on how to keep improving it.
You see, before episode one of Post-Woke (11/15/21), I had never done anything like this. I'm learning audio production as I go so it's music to my ears to hear you compliment the quality!
And now I'm looking forward to your podcast, my friend. I'd be honored to be a guest!
I like your podcasts. You choose interesting guests and hold interesting conversations. My unsolicited advice: If your current subscribers aren't "podcast people" I don't think that means you should scale back on the podcasts. I think it just means you need to find more "podcast people"! Do what you're inspired to do :)
Thanks you, Alicen. I'm definitely not gonna shorten the episodes or reduce frequency. I feel quite confident that I offer enough written content to justify everyone to subscribe. But, as you suggest, I need to reach more folks who are "podcast people."
I read. I can't recall ever getting all the way through any podcast though I have listened to a few, partially, to get the gist of the ideas. I rarely watch YouTube videos either, just a select few from authors I respect. I'll always read, given that it's worthy of my time, that is. Peace
Edit: Good writers are especially fun to read as they convey with eloquent words in a fascinating manner, pure pleasure regardless of the material.
I prefer reading. I do a massive amount of research (at the moment concerning the demolition of the Catholic church) and ninety five percent is written word.
My son and I attended, until recently, a Latin rite Catholic mass in Chicago. The leftist cardinal here, a monster if ever there was one, has taken the current pope's desire to eliminate the traditional mass slowly even further, and has banned our mass in city limits. If that's not religious persecution, I don't know what is.
Thanks. I appreciate that information. I haven't attended mass in many years but as part of the article I'm writing plan to attend one (of the tridentine version) in a nearby town.
I hope you don't mind an additional comment. An essay I wrote ("Discernment, Disease, and the Destruction of Reality) contained this:
"These experts of all strains are regarded with varying degrees of respect and trust by the same populations that for decades have, as noted by Neil Postman and others, continue to value entertainment over discourse. "
While I have watched and learned from a number of video presentations, we the living need to be aware that people watching too much and reading too little (and/or only mainstream media) is how we got here.
I listen to your podcasts with great interest and glee. I like your New York accent, and enjoy almost all your interviewees' accounts of themselves, their interests, and their insights. I'd definitely be open to longer podcasts.
I seldom listen, almost never. I go though a bit less than 100 articles a day. Fast reader though I am, I of necessity skim a lot. I often give your material more detailed consideration.
I love both!!!! Reading is great because you have a transcript to go back and refer...podcasts are great because you get to hear the back and forth and hear others opinions...it's more organic.....also, I always learn something new about the topic or Mickey! Thanks for including us in your process....
Much appreciated!
podcasts are not a big deal to me, write ups are way more useful, plus you write so well..... your writing is approachable by many people.....
Thank you for your input and your kind words, Deb! From the first time I ever got published, I've aimed to be accessible.
not a podcast person. .. . like to read. . .
Thank you!
Not a podcast person. Always prefer reading.

Thanks for asking.
And thanks for replying!

I listen to a lot of different podcasters so I know quality and yours is high quality!
I’m curious what editing software and microphone you use - but if you don’t want to get into the weeds here, I can email you this question.

THANKS! 💕
You're welcome.
I enjoy podcasts, but I have a limited time to listen without being interrupted. I prefer reading.
Thank you, Dee.
Not a podcast person, absorbing written content as fast as I can, little time for extending listening. But I’m glad you do it!
Thank you, George...noted!
Reading is far faster.
I'm not ranking one vs. the other. Just trying to get a feel for who listens.

You are so kind, Stella. Thank YOU!
I'm not a podcast person, Micky, though the recordings I do listen to I limit to short ones...less than 15 min. qr so.
However, I greatly appreciate your writing, as do many others, I'm sure.
Thank you for your kind words, Jeff. Truly appreciated.
