Part of that naïveté is the dependence on the nanny state. And it is beyond naive to believe that any of our so called leaders are going to make life better for anyone other than themselves. The great awakening is coming but for many of us it will be quite a rude one.
It is nice to think of little or no responsibilities as a child. Your message & the first picture brought to mind "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them." Isaiah 11:6 I'm looking forward to that time even more!
growing up in the woods my biggest wish was to live in a wooded area. So my childhood dream has come true. Had to move across the ocean but made it. You are so right, we all want to stay young, but with the knowledge we have now. Playing in the woods with the dog every day (to my surprise I saw her picking blackberries yesterday) I wonder if that was what Jesus meant when he said to let the children come to him? Also reminds me of a Sophie Kinsella book I read years ago, 20s girl, where she visits a retirement home, where the old folks are moving along with music from their youth, and she realizes that deep inside, they are all still in their 20s.
Your comment is beautiful on so many levels, Ingrid. Thank you for sharing.
And I was literally just pondering a similar Jesus. I'll elaborate in a post very soon but for now, specific to your point: Children have that mustard seed faith. Miracles are normal to them. Jesus was teaching us to be child-like but not child-ish.
This was a beautifully done distinction between innocence and naivete!
This is where the value of experiencing the beautiful (and the not so beautiful, as inevitably comes), as well as the good and the reality of evil's resistance to -- and hatred of -- the good, deepens a man or woman's capacity to elaborate, contextualize and counter what is ugly and wicked. God provides every means and every inspiration, man supplies the willingness, the eyes to see and the ears to hear, the mouth and hands to say and do.
I was reminded of William Blake reading this article.
Great post! A thought. Doesn't being naïve also have an aspect of cowardice with it? The YOU that is you sees and knows all things. Knows the difference between right and wrong. Being naïve is being cowardly to some degree.
It's tricky, right? We've both been around long enough to witness people acting naïve to disguise their intentions but I concur. There are some well-intentioned souls who just don't seem to discern the deceptions.
Oh yes! Just yesterday I had an email response from a friend who had read the announcement for the need for non vac blood. “What about addicts who give blood? “. She rose up in protest, “Don’t they understand that vaccines have saved so many people? “. And she’s had them all, plus her family …..
Mickey this is one of your best and most lovely…..and the images, such a blessing! When the lion shall lie down with the lamb~~~Now, as we are being sickened by the harshness of the world’s outlook on humanity and knowing what is actually being done to the innocent and naive. ~~~For years on my crowded fridge door I have this saying….”Show me a dreamer and I’ll show you someone who is more wide awake than most people.”
Excellent - so glad you make this distinction between what I have started calling toxic gullibility and real innocence - “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
And that obscure songwriter also said, “Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.”
funny, I always felt old beyond my years. There's such a lot of mythology surrounding "loss of innocence" -- Eden was only one of those myths. The innocence you're talking about is similar to William Blake's in "Songs of Innocence." It's being able to still see and feel joy, instead of roiling in despair and ultimately cynicism, even when the circumstances are painful.
Thanks, Lorie. Do you feel you embody Blake's innocence despite feeling old? And doesn't Blake equate such innocence with the ability to hold onto one's imagination?

I personally see the nanny state narrative as skewed but I hear you on the great awakening!

Yes, Kristi! That is precisely what guided me to write this post! 🙏
Love this piece! And One of the final comments the innocent dare to have dreams in the face of nightmares.
Thank you so much, Elise...and Amen! 🙏💕🙏

I am happy I never grew up LOL
Lovely!

David, you are far too kind but if anything in this post was beautifully done, it is because (as you eloquently state) God provides. 🙏

Thank you, David...and thank for the provocative question. I've never pondered this distinction before. Can some be naïve but not willfully ignorant?
Good point. I have known some naïve people who were truly sweet human beings. So I think there are different aspects of it.

Thank you, as always, Sharon! 🙏 And what a beautiful synchronicity in the saying that's on your fridge door!

👏👏👏👏
I gave this comment a standing ovation, Will...and kudos for the term "toxic gullibility." I will be making reference to it for sure!
Very wise words.
Thank you, my friend. That means a lot to me.

he does indeed!
I don't think I embody Blake's innocence--but maybe I'm working at it. haha.
❤
I love this. ✨
Thank you! 🙂
