I say this all the time on HologramPress, and it's very encouraging to hear an academic speaking on this as well. Attempting to confine reality to strict rational/material parameters is part of the reason we're in this Transhumanistic mess to begin with. We NEED to open our hearts and get in touch with our Spirit, if we want to make a real positive change in this world!
