Week one at Zuccotti Park.

“no war but class war.” (actually: no war but spiritual war.)
The heartbeat of OWS.
“We have two American flags always: one for the rich and one for the poor. When the rich fly, it means that things are under control; when the poor fly, it means danger, revolution, anarchy.” (Henry Miller)

Easily the best and most important work I ever did with OWS was “Occupy Sandy” — when we directly served those hit by SuperStorm Sandy in late 2012.
Occupy Wall Street was very exhilarating at times. Looking back now, I see that its greatest value was leading me away from performative virtue signaling and toward a life of deeper discernment and tangible service.
I remain grateful for the transformative experience.

We were one of those households in Staten Island hit hard by Sandy. I remember that long before the city did anything, people, just regular people! were coming from all over to help out. When the cops showed up, all they could do was harass people, claiming "looting" (there wasn't any) and tell us horror stories about how the street would be bulldozed because it was such a biohazard. ffs. T
I really enjoy your work, mate. I fail in all the ways you succeed 😂 I keep getting caught up in "sides" and being "right" when in reality there's no sides on a round planet and being right matters so much less than being love.
Also, as much as I value the moment in time that was OWS, I think Doug Stanhope nailed it when he talked about what a truly wasted opportunity it ended up being.
