Wow. It has not gotten better. It is now worse. Medicine has officially become leading cause of death. But ask any American and they have been to the doctor at least once last month. They all know about meds but they are all taking them. Insurance or not the doctor is their God. I now consider it a blessing I had such a poor quality doc as a kid.. At age 15 I knew not all docs are there to help and heal you.
Money and the incentives to getting more keep the systems ineffectual in achieving their stated purpose. Look at the billions spent in California, Oregon, and Washington on homelessness …there is a reason homelessness has only been perpetuated. If the problem gets solved, the money dries up.
Lots of people are saying "this is it!", it's the "apocalypse". In Y2K many were saying the same. Also, if your country were being invaded by another, or a family member starving, I think that would feel like the end.
The point is that as it gets closer to an effect on our lives, the more it seems the end is near. If your particular comfort zone isn't affected, then anyone saying danger is a kook.
One difference today is we are in an Apocalyptic State TM 🤓---lots of the lies are being revealed
What's the same is nobody cares unless it impacts their well being.
This is more proof of my contention that history is a failure. I imagine this trend goes ALL the way back. Like farming itself thanks to our refusal to do anything correctly, has not ultimately profited us. That doesn't mean the pastoral life is better, it's not, nature is a sadistic psychopath, it just means that we can't seem to escape worse. I agree with you.
My concern is both scenarios can be seen as benevolent and servicing the greater good. It depends on who receives the benefits.
It is the road to hell paved with good intentions--people looking out for what's best for us
