I find it interesting that Vox gives so much "credit" to the Catholics for the Hayes Code, when Catholics were often treated as second-class citizens in the US (correct? I am not in the US). Seems a bit convenient.
When was the effect of dopamine discovered? Did they need folks revved up to support some conflict or another?
Loaded indeed! I tried to tread lightly so I don't drift into a reactionary stance while still appreciating lost wisdom. As for dopamine, the post-Freud world certainly ramped up manipulation in a major way. So much so that the "censored" movie companies lined up to make propaganda films.
Yes, Catholics were definitely frowned up for a long time. In 1960, for example, JFK's presidential campaign initially struggled due to an unwillingness to elect this country's first Catholic president. The Vatican has improved its propaganda skills since then!
