Lovely thoughts! Yes, I have always been in awe of the scenic majesty and beauty of mountains, water falls, great admiration of climbers who somehow, live to attack the heights, eeeek! And here I am on the flattest of flat, lots of beige and too much summer sun. Very hard to enjoy at times. Some might enjoy the Phoenix area but it is not my favorite topography ;-( I do confess
I seem to remember Phoenix as being quite beautiful--the surroundings--but way, way too hot. Those giant Saguaros are magnificent! It was well over a 100F going home to my friend's house at 4:00 AM, after a triple feature at a drive-in movie(The mid '70's). One day it hit 117F. I decided to not move and stay in Albuquerque, NM, for good. Peace
Oh a peeple who understands! Yes sure, there is N AZ —but one doesn’t go back and forth up there for Saturday bike rides! I miss the elevations and canyons of the coast, misty weather, and clouds. Makes me more meditative and creative. Years ago in my comty—I walk at night in summers, and security stopped me one evening after 9 pm to say, Sharon. Go home, it’s 104. LOL and I suppose saguaros are fine, and amazing, but I prefer lollipop trees, like oaks and such, with real leaves. Here, lean over to pick up weeds in summer, and one wants to pass out. But…..the summer monsoons are fabulous! I sit on my deck and watch lightning chase each other, and the skies light up and the palms trees dance. So yes, the drama during summers is exciting and I am thankful to be alive for the creation play.
I love to walk, but not on mountainous land, not even on hilly land. We can make it easy on ourselves and stay on mostly flat land. It goes beyond me, why people want to climb a mountain. I prefer to watch it, best from my lazy sofa LOL. Great pics !
I've climbed little mountains, but I would never climb even a small mountain deemed sacred. I don't believe that indigenous people climbed the mountains they found sacred; they had no need to prove themselves like over-indulged Westerners seem to have. And people who climb should not expect to be rescued: Prepare or prepare to die, no one owes you. (Rescuers have died trying to rescue people in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.)
Good!, for the Bhutanese(or not). This reminds me of seeing an Airbnb, in Peru, South America, of lodging in pods on a sheer rockface at $450 a night accessed only by climbing with gear, or a zipline. An abomination in my book and I rock climbed as a youth. I get the willies these day when reminiscing about a fall I took at about 600 feet up and was saved by my climbing gear & father on the belay. Whhaa! Peace, The Ol' Hippy
I’ve never understood why people risk life and limb to say they conquered some mountain so high the air is hard to breathe, the weather and conditions extreme, and the enormous support and supplies necessary. From beginning to end it seems like an indulgence of ego and hubris.

If you are familiar with Dr. Newton's book, there is another excellent creature, called an Arder of Brooel.
They have an affinity for Humans. They have bodies like a small bear, with the face of a cat.
