Yesterday, walking through my neighborhood, I saw something quite remarkable. There were children, actual children, running around and playing. 5-10 year olds in a few groups, running around the block, lost in that ferverent dialogue that children have when they are playing. Overhead a girl say to a younger boy, 'give me your goggles'......it feels like years since I have seen kids actually play in real time. I hope they don't die untimely deaths. This is so hard to parse.
I thought the evolutionary perspective of social familial structures, as presented by Bret and heather , is an important consideration. Like why polygamy is problematic in how it contributes to success .
It's so easy to slip into digital alienation. The health outcomes are awful. Putative remedies like the Echo are the equivalent of eating cotton candy to cope with nutrition deficits. Social media is not *entirely* bad, but it's still all too easy to get trapped in socially destructive modes. I ultimately had to shutter my accounts.
Digitized interaction is not all bad, of course. Some Substack pages are genuine oases, which is a blessing.
Indeed, James. Well said. And yes, the solution is not black and white thinking. The onus is on each of us to carefully and regularly discern what does and doesn't feel beneficial to our wellbeing.

Amen!
Thanks, Zack!

So much bad news yet still optimistic - me too.
It's all about reclaiming humanity, as you say. I'm in.
Yes and thank you, Kathleen! 🙂
