It’s not unusual or illogical to ask questions about the ostensible demeanor of the Old Testament God. To some, he can seem vindictive, violent, and impossible to please.
However, when you consider that the books were written from the perspective of humans who continuously failed to hold up their end of God’s Covenant and thus suffered greatly for it, it’s reasonable to assume more than a little bias.
The New Testament, on the other hand, is quite often direct transcriptions of words spoken by Jesus.
Take the Sermon on the Mount, for example. Is there anything vindictive, violent, or impossible to please in Jesus’s words?
Suggestion: Before you dismiss God based on the Old Testament, take a closer look at what he directly says in the New Testament.
Jesus proposes a revolutionary, upside-down vision of what most of us imagine sustainable change looks like as it happens.
P.S. I apologize that I’ve forgotten who but someone here recently recommended a book to me and I will now recommend it to all of you:
The Sermon on the Mount: the Key to Success in Life by Emmet Fox (excerpt in the image above)
Another recommendation: A YouTube channel called BibleProject. Start with their playlists that break down every book in the Old and New Testaments — in animated videos of about eight minutes each.
And I have one more recommendation. Please take 7 minutes to watch, listen, and read along:
Thank you 🥰
I'd like to recommend a book, profound and easy to read: Life of Christ, by Fulton J Sheen.
