What if the “Don’t Say Gay” bill doesn’t say “gay”?
(Maybe read the bill before you “protest” it?)
I just saw a post for a recent “protest” in NYC:
I’d like to address this from four different angles.
IGNORANCE
We live in an age when people get experimental jabs without ever thinking to investigate what’s in them. Thus, I seriously doubt any of the folks who dragged themselves out of bed on a Sunday morning to “protest” actually know what’s in the bill they claim to oppose.
In the name of manipulation, their leaders have cleverly dubbed it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill but the formal name is the Parental Rights in Education bill. In its seven pages, the word “gay” never appears. In fact, the bill is not about homosexuality. Here’s the passage most opponents have focused on:
Lines 97-101: “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”
Breaking news: Sex education is not even taught in kindergarten through grade 3. So, this bill is, at most, designed to make sure things stay that way.
To paraphrase what I asked in a recent article: Why would prepubescent children need to be taught about sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation? It’s one thing if a child has same-sex parents and other kids ask questions about it. Some basic details should be shared. Beyond that, why would a 6-year-old need to understand any of this yet?
Here’s one thing the Parental Rights in Education bill doesn’t do: Prevent teachers, parents, administrators, or children of any age from saying the word “gay” in school.
STRAW MAN
Of course, writing an article like this could get me labeled anything from homophobic to right-wing to conservative to a Trumper. The #woke crowd loves their straw men. But, for the record: I am not defending Ron DeSantis or any other corrupt politician or any political party or any of the elected or appointed criminals who are hellbent on destroying this country.
Note to Pride “protestors”: If you think the Democrats are on your side, you are officially part of the problem.
“ACTIVISM”
Even if you actually read the bill and even if you’re not responding in a knee-jerk manner, your ineffectual tactics are nothing but exhibitionist virtue signaling. Holding signs, marching, chanting, etc. merely create the illusion of tolerance, debate, and freedom of expression.
LEFT CENSORSHIP
Historically, Gay Pride is a “left” issue. Ten years ago this month, I marched with Occupy Wall Street in NYC’s Pride parade (see photo above). I did so — along with many other straight occupiers — to show solidarity. Today, Gay Pride (much like Black Lives Matter) has been co-opted by #woke ideology.
Hence, a big part of the queer agenda is censorship, cancel culture, and banning anyone who doesn’t march in lockstep with you. Scroll back up and look at the flyer for the recent “protest.” It calls for DeSantis to be barred from the venue. It claims this should be done to reject “hate.” The only hate I see here is hatred of free speech.
It’s sad that I even have to explain how this dishonors the long history of successful left-wing activism in areas like labor, civil rights, and yes, gay rights.
Once again, I must ask if you’ve ever done any reading on the topics you discuss with such confidence because…
Coda: Homophobia is widespread and dangerous. You don’t need to make stuff up to support this statement.
In all my experience with the "woke", they are useless for anything but dishonest histrionics and cold, calculated spite. They're fundamentalist foot soldiers in a power struggle.
