Click below for a one-minute song that would be labeled ‘hate speech’ by a loud, misguided minority today:
“It's easy to say ‘It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes … Anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.” (Fred Rogers)
Which side are you on and how soon will you take an active, public stance?
#StayHuman
One of the things that made him such a great educator was the gentle, calm way in which he promoted the cultivation of grace and dignity. Even sheltered lives have vicissitudes and need those qualities. We used to call the milder, universal eventualities (e.g. puberty) "growing pains". A mindful approach eases the stress and strain, and trains the practitioner for harder struggles.
Is there room a Mr. Rogers today? Rhetorical of course. Yes, this sweet human who helped raise - how many millions - would have no seat the table today.
Could he have ever imagined this world? Doubtful. I could not have and yet... here we are. Thanks, Mickey. It does make you nostalgic.
