I recently posted about my poetry exploits and a few folks requested some of my verses. Next, I shared a silly group of haiku I wrote in 2011 and a video of me reading one of my poems in January 2015.
Now, it’s time for haiku overload — 20 haiku written over the course of my adult life (with a couple of my photos thrown in for good measure).
you squint your eyes and
anticipate cool wind on
your face like a kiss
seeds now mutant can
no longer comprehend how
evolution works
you once seemed very
important but now you are
another four years
bargains and sales andÂ
the smell of chemicals makeÂ
cash registers hum
in times of conflict
no one expects a slacker
to be a black belt
sunken poetry
drown in a pool of f sharps
armageddon art
the way i see it
unemployment insurance
is subsidized arts
she kissed me a lotÂ
rather than listening toÂ
me talk all the time
you have eyes to watchÂ
a bee fly no need to askÂ
for its resumeÂ
eat when you’re hungry
sleep when you’re tired make love
when you’re inspired
my awareness has
been cleared of all charges butÂ
told not to leave town
black mask gun barrel
silhouetted under a
zapatista moon
filled with detachment
the dragon uses his breath
to warm up dinner
the armies remainÂ
nothing left to protect but
people crave safety
she wrote a novel
with a single raised eyebrow
chapter by chapter
no correlation
the randomness exquisite
a hymn to chaos
everyone falls at
thirty-two feet per second
some land on two feet
i have seen the best
minds of my generation
destroyed by sadness
truth spreads in pasture
we have more to fear from the
shepherd than the wolf
seems like you foresaw some thruths there ! the mutant seeds, the people wanting 'protection' ! Lovely Mickey! Keep on writing!
Goooooood stuff!!! I don't usually enjoy poetry but I enjoyed these.
