In January 2004, I was flown out to Santa Cruz, California to emcee a four-day event called “The People’s Summit.” It included prominent speakers of the time like Michael Parenti, Cynthia McKinney, and yours truly.
During those four days, however, we all took time out to join a protest (both inside and outside a courtroom) in support of the homeless population of Santa Cruz.
Below is a shot of a spontaneous talk I gave that day.
Prior to that, I wrote for and volunteered with Street News — the groundbreaking NYC publication created and sold (on the subways) by homeless people.
In 1998 or so, I appeared on a radio show with Indio (pictured with me below) — a formerly homeless man who ran Street News with love and vision.
I share these memories for two reasons.
Firstly, I aim to highlight how a mission takes form. Stay vigilant and your purpose will be revealed to you.
Reminder: We need you to fulfill the dreams that were placed in your hearts.
Secondly, here’s how to support my ongoing mission of 7.5 years to help homeless women and many other vulnerable souls on the streets of NYC:
