Decency and resolute purpose, sacrificial patience are still in style. Nice selection! I'm going to single out the tax meme for comment, and I'll bet you can relate to at least part of the sentiment. The man has an excellent point. Magic Money Theory supports his view. If MMT is good for oligarchs, it's got to be good for people too. And if taxes are in some way necessary, why tax good things? There are more than enough negative externalities to tax. It's undoubtedly true that Pigouvian taxation (taxes on negative things) wouldn't support an imperial project or the care and feeding of needy oligarchs, but is that really a problem?
