Surely, by now, you’ve read about the alleged Google engineer who was allegedly put on leave for having an alleged “conversation” with an allegedly sentient strong artificial intelligence. I’ve opted not to pay much attention, primarily for these two reasons:
I trust absolutely nothing generated by the PR department of a corporation as deceptive, massive, and powerful as Google.
Alleged scientists debate whether the bot is sentient, has thoughts and consciousness, and is intelligent. Meanwhile, they don’t even have a consensus on what any of those terms mean.
Thought experiment: Could any of you definitively “prove” (by mainstream standards) that you possess any of the above attributes — even if your life depended on it?
Many of the people I've encountered are incapable of deviating from whatever perjured "narrative" is in their mental drip feed. For all practical purposes, including their own wellbeing, they're working with badly compromised sentience. They can't protect themselves, or their loved ones (assuming compromised sentience allows any love in the first place). They can look directly at info that would be actionable to others and somehow either not see it or see it in badly warped ways.
"Cogito, ergo sum" is all I've got.
