As you surely know by now, I was a high-profile figure on the radical left for quite some time. Context: “Radical left” back then didn’t mean what it means today. That said, I did notice more than a few disturbing trends during my, um… tenure.
I recall once writing about how the Left seemed addicted to complaining and losing — and there are plenty of non-profits and NGOs ever-ready to capitalize on and monetize this sad reality.
The lefties also exert a lot of energy telling us how we’re doomed thanks to climate change — and there’s nothing we can do about it.
They regularly chase away potential allies because they use a “wrong” pronoun or aren’t sufficiently “anti-racist.”
It feels as if the collective radical identity is tied to being the “opposition.” Winning feels alien to them and, in a way, is seen as selling out. After all, who would an “activist” truly be if they weren’t harassed, mocked, broke, and, well… losing?
Fast-forward to the “pandemic”: I’ve met lots of new folks who identify as free thinkers. It’s been fascinating to witness how some of them also embrace different versions of self-sabotage.
So much of their identity is linked to being mandated, mocked, banned, and excluded that they choose to not trust anyone beyond their tiny echo chambers.
The truthers also exert a lot of energy telling us how we’re doomed thanks to the Great Reset — and there’s nothing we can do about it.
It’s as if they couldn’t bear the thought of not having their rights trampled on. What in the world would they think and talk about?
I’ve also seen plenty of people from the freedom crowd calling out virtually every high-profile potential ally as a “gatekeeper” or “controlled opposition.”
They regularly chase away potential allies because they don’t march in perfect lockstep with them.
Of course, I can’t verify the integrity of the high-profile individuals in question, but I can see that they’ve bolstered the cause of rejecting transhumanism and medical tyranny far more than any shitposter on Facebook.
That’s why I’ve interviewed a few of them. FYI: That does not mean I agree with everything my podcast guests (or anyone) says.
Hmm… maybe I’m a gatekeeper?
Spoiler alert: Memes, sign-holding, and in-fighting will not create sustainable change. Getting suspended on social media is not a sign that you’ve got it all figured out.
At some point, you have to connect with others without assigning restrictive litmus tests for purity. Unless, of course, winning isn’t your actual goal…?
The way I see it, the overt pursuit all across the ideological spectrum is winning — but not in a way that boosts the greater good. Rather, ideologues of all stripes gain credibility via their alleged outcast status. Ego is the driving force behind almost all virtue-signaling cliques.
Whichever group I hang with, it feels like we’re still stuck in high school.
Let’s all graduate and grow up, shall we?
Refreshing message, Mickey! I consider you an ally despite the fact I know we don't march in lockstep on every single topic under the sun. You are inspiring me to incorporate this approach more openly and loudly in my content. We need to stay focused on the big picture problems that affect us all and work together. Hopefully we can hash out petty differences after the victory.
Well said.
