I moved away from “left” activism before it shifted fully into wokism and long before the word “Covid” entered our daily vocabulary.
More recently, as I spoke out against lockdowns, masks, jabs, and all that, I reached a new audience and made new friends.
However, of the “activists” I’ve met in this time period, I find many of them to be virtually indistinguishable from the “activists” I fled years ago.
The purity litmus tests. The provocateur/controlled opposition accusations*. The suffocating presence of pessimism. The irrational commitment to sign-holding and virtue signaling. The more-radical-than-thou pissing contests. The woeful lack of fact-checking.
The list goes on.
It matters not what ideology they conform to. The archetypes thrive all across the spectrum.
This comes as no surprise when considering the influence wielded by corporate power, banks, and alphabet agencies. They no longer need to infiltrate so-called “movements” when individuals are already sufficiently conditioned — and self-conditioned.
This is why I’ve operated as a free agent for a long time.
Sure, my subscriber list is not as long as those who only sing to the choir but that’s fine with me. I remain faithful that my approach can and will prevail.
After all, my life has been a series of “Dylan goes electric” moments.
To be authentic, you must risk leaving some folks behind. It’s nothing personal or intentional. But when people want you to remain static in your thinking, your art, your worldview, etc., they are attempting to limit you.
You do not owe it to them to comply.
I revel in epiphanies, those precious moments when I recognize a new perspective. Shifting gears into a fresh mindset does not intimidate me — but it does sometimes get me attacked and un-friended.
With all this in mind, I’m asking each of you to open-mindedly entertain different viewpoints. Pay close attention to where your heart leads you (but do your research, too). Do not impose your personal ideological expectations on the people you admire or care about.
Remember this: You can contribute to positive, sustainable social change without selling your soul to any type of “movement” hive mind. Until this is realized, most of us will likely remain isolated in angry, paranoid echo chambers.
Sure, it can be seductive to feel like you’ve connected with a massive community of kindred spirits. I wish that for you. But, in the meantime, again:
It is never necessary for people to march in lockstep in order to collectively garner meaningful results.
*And yes, of course, I am more than aware that the CIA was infiltrating even before it was called the CIA. It’s just that these days, “activists” do much of the work for them. (click here for more)
To me, an activist is a man or woman who finds a piece that fits into a puzzle and shares that connection with others. The problem is there are many more pieces to fit, in completing the puzzle and no one on earth ever completes life's puzzle. We can only hope for a partial image we may frame and hang on our wall for other activists to see, judge and perhaps adopt.
Activism is an artform for life in the gallery of good intensions.
Was talking to a new aquaintance today who is on the same important page about little girs not getting dbl mastectomies etc only to find out she loves Rachel Maddow.
