I always wear message t-shirts, but some get more attention than others. The other day my “fearfully and wonderfully made” shirt stopped a woman in her tracks at a local health food store.
“Trust the process” is a big favorite — as is “Be the hero of your own story.”
But the #1 conversation starter — by far — is this one:
Some folks call it a “great shirt” or loudly announce that they love the message. Many, however, will declare how hard it can be to do the right thing. To that, I reply with something like: “But it’s so worth it.”
This never fails to inspire a positive response. You see, we’re designed to do the right thing and thus, a simple reminder like a t-shirt is enough to provoke even the most wary New Yorker to talk about it with a stranger.
No one wants to be greedy, arrogant, sneaky, violent, or worse. What we all want more than anything is to do the right thing.
We also want to watch others doing the right thing.
We even want to see complete strangers be the recipients of other complete strangers doing the right thing. For example:
The people clapping at the end of that ^ video most likely don’t know the man whose life was saved by someone else they don’t know risking their own well-being.
None of the cheering bystanders needed to know who that man at risk voted for, what religion he follows, if he tells people his pronouns, whether or not he wore a mask during the Covid psyop, or whatever litmus test you choose to conjure up.
All that mattered was that someone did the right thing and a fellow human was saved.
If you were there, you would’ve clapped, too. If you had access to the crane, you would’ve risked harm in lowering the pod to the man — despite the flames and smoke.
I know this to be true.
Accept reality and own up to the fact that you desperately want to do the right thing — all the time. Stop fighting it. Stop virtue signaling. Stop trying to convince yourself that it’s not worth it. Stop seeking out evidence that we’re past the point of no return.
Surrender to the better angels Abe Lincoln talked about after the Civil War in the quote above ^. You know it’s exactly what you crave and what you need.
So listen to your heart, satisfy your soul, and listen to da mayor:
