I’ve participated in more demonstrations, sit-ins, marches, and protests than anyone I know. Full stop.
Such events were related to “causes” like environmentalism, animal rights, privacy, corporate power, medical debt, the military-industrial complex, GMOs, and on and on.
I even made a few appearances at “freedom” rallies like this in 2021:
At these hapless performances, I witnessed (and sometimes felt) plenty of rage. In fact, the anger outweighed the joy by a substantial margin. The folks around me ostensibly wanted to live in a better world but most weren’t bringing their best to the table.
They wanted to live in a more just world but weren’t behaving like justice seekers.
They wanted to live in a more equitable world but saw themselves as above their “enemies.”
Yes, “activists” apparently want to help create a happy world but happiness is rarely in their repertoire.
So many of my comrades (from the full range of ideologies) oozed fury, vengeance, fear, superiority, impatience, paranoia, and denial.
Few of us ever stopped to wonder how fury, vengeance, fear, superiority, impatience, paranoia, and denial could ever be the ingredients of a happy world.
A fundamental first step for anyone and everyone craving sustainable, positive social change (and happiness): Look inward and begin with yourself.
Spoiler alert: The boat isn’t sinking. The Powers That Shouldn’t Be™ are just making it look and feel that way — and we’re buying what they’re selling.

I was never a "rallyer". I was at a pro-life rally once, years ago
The last, and by far the largest rally I attended was the Truckers' Rally in Ottawa.
It was one huge, frozen, celebration. A street-party.
I hope this bodes well for the long term effects.
Occupy happiness!
never demonstrated, never protested, but trying to live my best life! Enjoying what there is and changing what I can, not what others should. Happiness belongs to you. No one can make you happy unless you have happiness in yourself! Here comes the sun !
