cats in the can: felines rescued, prisoners rehabilitated, redemption all-around
the power of getting a second chance
A big thank you to
for telling me about programs across the U.S. that bring kittehs and prisoners together in a mutually beneficial way.Cats who are about to be euthanized because they are deemed to be “unadoptable” get to live with inmates who have scored enough good behavior points to become doting foster parents.
The results have been magical and lifesaving — on both sides.
Rather than me explaining everything, I urge you to watch this 10-minute video:
I hope you watch the longer version above but you only have a minute or two, here’s a concise video about a similar program in a different prison:
Take-home message: Redemption is available for all beings if only we, as a society, are willing to give them (and ourselves) a second chance.
P.S. No one needs to be reminded in the comments that some prisoners are cruel and dangerous and thus, should not be around any vulnerable being.
