It’s all too simple to take the easy way out by assuming most people are evil and only out for themselves. Meanwhile, from my very broad life experience, I know for a fact that the opposite is true. So many folks are doing their part. The next step is up to you. It’s never too late to start.
As you watch the reel below, I wonder if you’ll consider two (of many) angles. Firstly, even if you’re currently in a job that’s not a “dream” position, you can make it meaningful. Also, when there’s someone in your daily orbit who adds to your quality of life, go out of your way to show them appreciation.
We humans were handed a paradise and so far, we’ve literally and figuratively pissed all over it. Meanwhile, innocent non-humans pay an enormous price for our immature, prideful, fear-driven behavior. It’s long overdue that we learn to treat animals with respect — and that includes working to ensure their freedom.
Wherever you are in life, you have the opportunity to be a positive influence on those in your circle — particularly the children. Why not embrace this gift and use it as one of your guiding principles?
“Blessed are those who have regard for the helpless;
the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.” (Psalm 41:1)
You may never encounter a dehydrated armadillo but you will cross paths with the metaphorical equivalent all day, every day. It does not require special skills or resources to change lives. Give it a try and find out for yourself. You will likely discover that you’ve been wanting to do this for your entire life.
On October 16, I will mark eight years of doing a NYC version of this work. The vast majority of the time, the experience is a lot like this: friendly, productive, and meaningful. I strongly suggest you get busy changing lives and you’ll soon marvel that one of those changed lives is yours.

We don’t need to be taught kindness. It’s our divine inheritance. We do, however, have to be conditioned to become an anxious bundle of ego, judgment, and dread. Spoiler alert: Your child-like mindset is still there — ready for reactivation. The whole world is excitedly waiting on you.
